About Venessa

My professional story:

I am the mother of four daughters. Each of my births was very different from the others. My first daughter was an induced birth with an epidural. I then had three natural births, the last one at home in a birth pool.

I truly believe, and have learned from experience, that birth in all its forms is an amazing and transformative experience. It has the potential to empower women as few other things could possibly do. When we birth our children, we also birth ourselves and leave the experience forever changed.

I look forward to helping you on your journey to motherhood and family, be it your first or tenth transition.

I am happy to travel within 20 miles of Chicago.

My training:

I have taken two intensive weekend-long doula trainings. The first was a DONA (Doulas of North America) training and the second was with the Midwest Maternal Child Institute in Madison. My certification with MMCI is pending. Although I have met all of the requirements to become certified by DONA, I do not intend to pursue certification through that organization due to some philosophical differences. I will begin my midwifery studies in June 2011. I am currently working towards my Childbirth Education Certification with Birth Arts International. I continue to improve my professional understanding by attending doula- and midwifery-related conferences, both locally and further afield, whenever possible.
